Open Entry Begins Monday April 16th

Beginning this coming Monday morning, we will be switching to an Open Entry format.  What does this mean for you and students? - Students will be able to enter the school whenever they arrive, beginning at 7:45 am. - Students must come in to the school.  They cannot stay outside as there will no longer be any outdoor supervision.  If students would like to stay outside, a parent will need to be present to supervise. - Students can enter through any door that is visible from the street. - Once inside, students will have a variety of activities that they can engage in, depending on how they are feeling that day.  Some of the options available are:           - staying in their classroom to quietly read, do mindful colouring, work on catch-up projects,                 or play math games.           - going to the gym for different stations         ...

These are some of the things that we have been working on in Room 106 ... Humanities We finished off persuasive essays by looking at the topic of the three best ways that the First Nations used the land sustainably.  We are now looking at biographies.  Students are looking at Canadian Olympic Snowboarder Mark McMorris as an introduction to how to write a biography.  Later on, students will be researching an individual who was/is important to Alberta and will write that individual's biography.  If you are looking to get a head start on this project, the Mavericks website through the Glenbow Museum is excellent! http://www.glenbow.org/mavericks/ Math Mr. Barker has been teaching us about some helpful multiplication strategies, including doubling and halving and friendly numbers.  In grade 4, the expectation is that students should be comfortable with basic facts up to the 9 x tables (we have also gone over the 10 x tables).  Students should als...
