Community Walk Tomorrow

Good morning! The Grade 4 classes will be going on a community walk tomorrow morning down to the ponds by the Creekside Shopping Centre.  We will be leaving at 8:30 am, and will return to the school by lunchtime at 11:00 am.  The forecast right now is looking great with a high of 20C.  Students may wish to bring sunscreen, bugspray, water, and/or a hat, and should be wearing comfortable walking shoes. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. I hope you have a fantastic week :)!

Year End Reflection It's hard to believe that there are only 4 weeks left in the school year!  The Grade 4 Learning Celebration / Farewell Assembly will be on Friday June 22nd.  As part of the assembly, students will be sharing what their most valuable learning experience of Grade 4 was.  To help them with their writing, we made a web of all the things we have done this year. It's amazing to see all of the experiences that we have had!  The names beside the activity indicate what students have decided that they want to write about.   Unfortunately, we won't be able to have all 69 Grade 4 students come up and share their learning experience, so we will be having auditions for those students who wish to present in front of the school.  We are encouraging students to come up with ways of presenting that will be interactive and engaging. Multiplication We came back to multiplication this week, and I am strongly encouraging all students to spen...

Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park

Image
It was a beautiful, sunny day (some of us might now be a little sunburned, not naming any names ;) ) to explore Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park! Today we participated in the Explore Grasslands and Best of Glenbow programs.   The purpose of the field trip was for students to have the opportunity to further explore and understand the Grade 4 Social Studies, Science, and Art curriculums.   Specifically, students had a chance to look at the impact that the Grasslands has on ways of life, as well as how the land helped to support both the First Nations and the settlers in this area.   We also looked at the biodiversity in the area, looking at different types of vegetation and seeds (this had a wonderful tie in to the work that we did just yesterday with the Scientist in the Classroom).   There was also tie-ins to our Science units of Light and Shadow and Plant Growth and Changes as we were able to observe and sketch some of the native Alberta...

Scientist in the Classroom and Field Trip

We had a fantastic morning learning all about plants and photosynthesis.  Scientist in the Classroom Penny was our guest and she had us dissect a flower to show the different parts, took us through an experiment that showed how photosynthesis occurred, stations that taught us all about plants, and even showed us how they recycle paper!!  We are very excited for our field trip to Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park tomorrow, and we’re sure it will be a fantastic day of learning!   It is forecast to be a beautiful day, with a day-time high of 25ÂșC.   Students will be outside for most of the day, travelling around the park.   With this in mind, please send your child with: -        a backpack -        light layers that can easily be removed and packed away inside a backpack.   It will likely be cooler in the morning and warm up as the day goes on. -  ...
What have we been working on? Humanities We are well into our research about the Alberta Mavericks.  Students will now be working on filling in a timeline, a planner, and will then begin working on their final project.   Here is the planner that will help them to know that they have enough information about their Maverick: Biography Early Life _________________ was born in ________________________ on _______________________.  He/She was Maverick and an Ambassador because________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________.
