Happy Wednesday!

Year End Reflection

It's hard to believe that there are only 4 weeks left in the school year!  The Grade 4 Learning Celebration / Farewell Assembly will be on Friday June 22nd.  As part of the assembly, students will be sharing what their most valuable learning experience of Grade 4 was.  To help them with their writing, we made a web of all the things we have done this year.

It's amazing to see all of the experiences that we have had!  The names beside the activity indicate what students have decided that they want to write about.

Unfortunately, we won't be able to have all 69 Grade 4 students come up and share their learning experience, so we will be having auditions for those students who wish to present in front of the school.  We are encouraging students to come up with ways of presenting that will be interactive and engaging.

Multiplication

We came back to multiplication this week, and I am strongly encouraging all students to spend some time every night practicing their basic facts so that they can become more fluent and automatic.

We focused on 2-digit x 1-digit and 3-digit x 1-digit problems, and we explored expanded form and the traditional algorithm as strategies.  For those students wanting more of a challenge, we started looking at 2-digit x 2-digit, and using the lattice method.

These are some of the practice problems that we were working on today.  The examples beside the 2-digit x 2-digit show the lattice method:
