Field Trip forms are coming home today! These forms are for our orientation visit to Simon Fraser Middle School next Thursday, March 8th.  Please complete the "Acknowledgement of Risk" forms and return them to school by the end of this week.  It is important for the forms to be clearly and neatly filled out as we will be bringing them with us and they will be used in the event of an emergency. Reminders for this week: - Miss. Willis and Mr. Barker are away tomorrow, Tuesday February 27th. - Wednesday is Pink Shirt Day - Wednesday and Thursday are Popcorn Days - Thursday is Home Reading and Learning Commons Book Exchange - Thursday will be the first day for student blogs

Happy Friday! I hope that you had a restful long weekend last week! Here is our learning web for this week: This will be the final week that we are doing a paper Home Journal as next week we will be switching to student blogs.  The blogs will be set up on Weebly Education, which is an approved Calgary Board of Education site.  The blogs will be 100% private and can only be accessed by logging in with student-specific usernames and passwords.  Students will bring home their username and password so that you can log in at home, and this information can also be shared with any family members who may wish to follow your child's blog. The format of the blog will be a "Week in Review".  We will continue to write the Home Journal, but this will also be an opportunity for students to share work that they have done throughout the week that they are particularly proud of.  This could be writing done in Literacy Stations or Humanities, a Math equation from How M...

Happy Friday! I hope that everyone is managing to stay warm and doing their best to enjoy snowmageddon :). Here is our learning web for this week: Upcoming Important Dates and Reminders: - Every Thursday is our Home Reading and Learning Commons book exchange. - Next Thursday and Friday (February 15th and 16th) is Teachers' Convention, so there is no school for students - Monday February 19th is Family Day, there is no school. - Mr. Barker returns on Tuesday February 20th for the second half of his practicum.  - The Cultural Games unit will begin on Monday. - Friday February 23rd is our next Fun Lunch and Flex Friday.

Happy Friday!! Here is the learning web that we constructed today to help us write our Home Journals. Please take a look at the Home Journal, sign it, and send it back to school for Monday.  In the Home Journal I have also included a paragraph with my feedback regarding the autobiography project. A big part of our focus this week was the persuasive essay writing.  We backed things up a couple of steps and started to look at things piece by piece.  Students chose their own topic and completed the "Persuasion Map" to help organize their opinions and reasons.  We then took a close look at how to write a good opening paragraph.  Here are some samples of what was written: Have you ever heard of NHL?  If you don’t know, the NHL is the National Hockey League and I am going to tell you about one of the best teams in the NHL.  I feel that the Winnipeg Jets are one of the best teams.  You might be asking how can I be so sure, well I will tel...
