These are some of the things that we have been working on in Room 106 ...
Humanities
We finished off persuasive essays by looking at the topic of the three best ways that the First Nations used the land sustainably. We are now looking at biographies. Students are looking at Canadian Olympic Snowboarder Mark McMorris as an introduction to how to write a biography. Later on, students will be researching an individual who was/is important to Alberta and will write that individual's biography. If you are looking to get a head start on this project, the Mavericks website through the Glenbow Museum is excellent!

Math
Mr. Barker has been teaching us about some helpful multiplication strategies, including doubling and halving and friendly numbers. In grade 4, the expectation is that students should be comfortable with basic facts up to the 9 x tables (we have also gone over the 10 x tables). Students should also be comfortable with multiplying double digits by single digits. Students will be having a quiz next week to see how they are progressing. Students wanting more practice at home can log into their IXL account here:

Science
In Science we have started our unit on Light and Shadow. Students have been measuring their shadows outside and have recently started a fun project that they will be showcasing at Student-Led Conferences next week. You can take a look at the topics covered in Light and Shadow on the 2learn website:

French
We have been learning about weather and seasons.
Music
We are lucky enough to welcome Indigenous Knowledge Keeper Darcy Turningrobe, who will be working with us on making drums for the school.
Health
We have begun our unit on Sexual Health by looking at the changes that occur in the body, thoughts, and relationships during puberty, we also talked about some of the great things about growing up, and some of the challenging things. Today we looked specifically at the changes that boys go through, and tomorrow we will focus on girls. The group working with Mr. Barker has been looking at the importance of one-line safety.
