After our adventures last week, we are very grateful to be back in our classroom!  During the cold snap, the furnace for our room completely froze up (there was about an inch of ice on the pipes!) and Miss. Willis could see her breath when she opened the door on Thursday morning.  Luckily the Learning Commons was a warm and cozy space, and the only ones that didn't escape the cold quite in time were the poor classroom plants :(.

Here is the web from last week that we used to help write our Home Journals.  If you haven't had a chance to take a look, please do so as soon as possible, sign, and return to school with your child (we will need them again this coming Friday):

We have started to look at perimeter and area with a math project in which students get to design their own zoo.  To practice these concepts, we did a 3-Act Problem called "Cover the Floor".  Students used a model to construct an array, and then used either addition or multiplication to solve the problem.

We have continued our work around Alberta by creating some watercolour landscapes.  Students chose an existing picture as a model, then used watercolour pastels to create their own.  They are now writing perspective poems about their painting using the five senses.  These will be on display during Student-Led Conferences next week.

Reminders and Upcoming Important Dates:
- We will do our regular home reading and learning commons book exchange on Thursday.
- Home Journals need to be returned for Friday

  1. I hope everyone is warmer now! It was alarming to hear that the class was so cold. How are things going with your zoo projects? I am looking forward to hearing about them when I come back. Keep up your hard work and keep thinking of things to add to the blog. Talk to you soon,

    Mr. Barker
