It's Friday!! Here is the web that we constructed to help us write our Home Journals:
Here are some things that the students wanted me to share on our classroom blog:
The Social Studies Alberta Road Trips
We finished up our Social Studies project this week. Students put together posters about their road trip and then shared their learning through an oral presentation. Mr. Barker will be passing on some feedback about the projects.
The French Plays
To give students a chance to practice their speaking, as well as to learn some winter themed vocabulary, they put together some little plays about what snowmen might do in the winter, "L'hiver de bonhommes de neige". Students got to make some props and did a fantastic job with their presentations!
Other happenings:
In Science we have been learning about simple machines: lever, wheel and axle, pulleys, wedge, inclined plane, and screw. The culminating activity will be for all three grade 4 classes to come together to build Rube Goldberg machines next week. Here are some shots of the ideating process:
The students are very excited to be sharing their dances next week!
Design Thinking Challenge
Students were given the challenge of designing a bridge that would be a given height, length, and width and hold a given amount of weight. They spent the last month or so building the bridges and got to test them out today! They were very well constructed, with some bridges holding over 2 kg!!
Upcoming Events
- IMPORTANT CHANGE: Report cards will now be coming home on Tuesday December 19th, instead of on the last day. This will allow parents to ask teachers any questions they might have before the break.
- Popcorn days are on Tuesday and Wednesday next week.
- The last day of school for students is Thursday December 21st. It will be a half day, with dismissal at noon.
- School will resume on Monday January 8th.
